“TELL ME, I’M LISTENING”
80cm x 80cm
Oil in Wood
Two children, separated by different worlds, communicate through a simple tin can telephone. A humble, almost fragile object that symbolizes how human connection can arise even when material resources are scarce. The string joining the two cans becomes a metaphor for empathy, communication, and hope.
The painting is dominated by black and white, a visual language that speaks of hardship, silence, and deprivation. Yet, in the middle of that darkness appears the only point of color: the book. It is the place where the children find what poverty so often tries to take away from them — the ability to dream.
The animals emerging from its pages represent distant worlds that both children can explore without money, without borders, and without social differences. Because culture has the power to equalize what society separates.
“Tell Me, I’m Listening” defends the idea that fighting poverty also means bringing education, art, and imagination to those who need them most. And when material resources do not exist, creativity can become a refuge, a bridge, and a future.
Sometimes, the greatest act of wealth is not to possess, but to listen, imagine, and share stories.
