Divided Humanity
80cm x 80cm
Oil on Canvas
This painting explores the contrast between privilege and hardship through a divided female portrait. Inspired by Sustainable Development Goal 10 — Reduced Inequalities — the work reflects how two completely different realities can exist within the same world, and ultimately within the same humanity.
The left side symbolizes wealth, stability, and opportunity through warm light, soft textures, and an elegant urban background. In contrast, the right side represents poverty, destruction, and social neglect, using darker tones and fragmented architecture to create a sense of instability and loss.
Despite these differences, both halves form one face. This symbolizes the shared dignity, strength, and humanity that connect people beyond race, geography, or economic status.
The visible cracks running through the center represent division, but also vulnerability and truth. Through color, contrast, and emotional expression, the painting invites the viewer to reflect on inequality not as a distant issue, but as a deeply human experience that affects us all.
