Oil and gold leaf on cotton canvas
My artistic practice explores the symbolic space between reality and imagination through oil and mixed media. By employing an intuitive process of layering and erasure, I mirror the fluid, fragmented nature of memory. Texture is vital; through scraping and blending, I create tactile, psychologically charged surfaces that reflect themes of time, endurance, and transformation.
The human figure serves as a vessel for internal states, situated within moody, indeterminate spaces where gesture communicates deep psychological tension. Drawing from my experience as a Lebanese artist in the UK, my work navigates the "in-betweenness" of the third-culture self, shaped by nostalgia and loss. Influenced by the chiaroscuro of Baroque masters like Caravaggio and Rembrandt, I use a restrained palette to translate personal and collective resilience into visual form. Ultimately, my paintings function as contemplative, atmospheric spaces that invite emotional connection, slowing time to reveal moments of fragility and quiet strength.
