An English broadcaster, natural historian and author, he is best known for writing and presenting, for the BBC, the nine-strong series in the “Life” collection on animal and plant life of Earth.
Having served as controller of BBC2 and Director of Programming for BBC TV in the 60s and 70s, his filmography as writer and presenter spans 8 decades. It includes Natural World, Wildlife on One, the Planet Earth Franchise, The Blue Planet and more.
A multiple BAFTA award winner he has also received Primetime Emmy awards – and of course, a Knighthood!
A passionate campaigner for wildlife and conservation, he considers his 2020 documentary “A Life on our Planet” as his personal witness statement of his life and the future.
